Frequently Asked Questions
About Diversity Beans
Diversity Beans are jelly beans with a purpose—each bite is a reminder that appearances can be deceiving. By challenging expectations with unpredictable flavors, they create a powerful sensory experience that mirrors how snap judgments about people can be misleading.
More than just candy, Diversity Beans are a tool to bridge divides—sparking conversations, breaking down barriers, and fostering deeper understanding through the simple act of sharing.
Unlike traditional jelly beans, where color always predicts flavor, Diversity Beans mix it up—each color can have multiple flavors.
Short answer: Now is the time for tools that foster connection, not division.
Longer answer: Diversity Beans matter in conversations about bias and inclusion because they provide a tangible, non-threatening way to illustrate how unconscious bias works. When people experience the surprise of an unexpected flavor, they personally feel how assumptions based on appearance can be misleading. This sensory experience creates a natural starting point for deeper discussions about stereotyping, diversity, and inclusion.
By bridging divides through curiosity and shared experiences, Diversity Beans help break down barriers, making it easier to engage in meaningful conversations about bias in workplaces, schools, and communities. They transform an abstract concept into something relatable, memorable, and impactful—helping people recognize and challenge their own assumptions in a way that feels engaging rather than confrontational.

They're a fun and educational way to engage employees, students, or anyone interested in learning more about inclusion.
Diversity Beans can be used as a tool to teach students about diversity and unconscious bias. You can create a game where each student picks a jelly bean, and they must reflect on how assumptions based on color don’t apply to the jelly beans—just like assumptions about people can be misleading. It's a fun and interactive way to foster a more inclusive environment.
